delete points outside/inside boundry
« on: August 24, 2011, 01:03:33 PM »
hello Lars,

could you make an option for deleting points outside/inside a boundry, something similar to the delete triangles with centroid out/in polygon? it would be very useful when we have large sets of points (mainly terrain scans) and need to keep only the points around the design area. it's a very time consuming job to manually delete all these points  :(

Hi!
I think there is a command like that in AutoCAD. "WPOLY" (or sometimes "WP") can be combined with other command that includes a selection. I dont know if the "WPOLY" can be inverted to exclude objects within the polygon.

well that is what I am using now. but imaging going with windowpolygon (wp) for 12 km on a curvy road back and forth ... so it would be a lot easier to offset the road centerline 20m each side, join them at each end and then just use a function to erase the points inside or outside this boundary just like the functions in cadtools for removing extra triangles.

I'm afraid it can be time consuming with laser data. I will give it a try though.

Hi, cr_raul
Your requested command can be found in the "Miscellaneous menu". It will  be harder for me to extend CadTools for a period. I've started a minor developement project for Microstation and it's hard to get focused on CadTools.

To my knowledge next release of InRoads won't support AutoCAD. I'm therefor forced to use Microstation as my main CAD software in the future. Some basic CadTools commands has over the years become "must have" so I've started from scratch with a minor tool for Microstation.

Hopefully this will grow into something public later on.

WOW! this is some piece of good news! I can now work my 3d modelling only in microstation. until now I made the 3d alignments in autocad with cadtools and then use microstation for the actual 3d modelling. and when I did something wrong I had to go back to acad and rebuild everything from scratch.  :)

Well, I'm not sure that all commands will be available in Microstation. For heavy lifting I'm using InRoads so I myself don't need those 3D alignment stuff found in CadTools
