Minimum Turning Radius in Imperial vehicles
« on: December 22, 2011, 09:41:16 PM »
When working with the Imperial vehicles in Vehicle Turning Simulation, the minimum turning radius given is not the correct value. The value itself is different for the same vehicle in the Metric version. For example the AASHTO WB-50 vehicle in the metric database shows a minimum turning radius of 12.53 metres which converts to 41.109 feet. In the imperial database the minimum turning radius is given as 125.28 feet, out a factor of 3.0475.
I think there is something wrong with the conversion factors used in the software.

Hi!

Yes you are right. That's a bug and it will be corrected in next update. Thank you for reporting it.

I know this is an old topic but I just recently starting using this program and noticed that tha imperial vehicle library is off.
Was this ever fixed in an update?
For instance I was trying to use a WB-67 vehicle which should be 73.5 feet in length total but the program was saying that the total length was around 125 feet.

Thanks.

I don’t know what has happened with the default imperial vehicle file? It’s been out there for a long time without any comments….
I’ve updated the file with correct values and you can solve the issue in two ways. Before you start locate the file: DefaultVehicles_Imperial_feet.vdt in CadTools directory (where the exe-file is located). Take a backup copy of the file or rename it. This is important if you have added any vehicles of your own into the data file.

CadTools update doesn’t overwrite any existing Vehicle file because the user might have added vehicles of his own into the file.

Yeah, I don't know here.
Guess I'm doing something wrong if no one else has reported issues but here's what I see.

No you are right! The total length for a WB-65 should be 73,5 feet as in your attached image. The updated vehicle file has these values for a WB-65.
Perhaps all user read the helpfile and then corrected all values :)

From CadTools helpfile and documentation: It's highly recommended that you obtain as much information about the max turning angles of used vehicles, consider supplied default vehicles in CadTools as proposal.

????
(Yes, you're right I can change the values myself...just didn't want to "re-invent the wheel" if this has already come up as a problem before and been resolved.)

And thank you for your attention to my question...It is very much appreciated.
