vehicle turning simulation - problems and requests
« on: June 15, 2012, 10:21:21 AM »
hello Lars,

I'm doing some simulations for oversized transports and I'm encountering some problems.
1.cadtools doesn't save the width of the second vehicle independently from the first vehicle. I can modify the width of the second vehicle and run the simulation with different widths but I can't save the parameters - the width of the second vehicle resets to the width of the first vehicle when saving.
2. when using large vehicle for simulation an error occurs when drawing the wheel and the vehicle sweep but the sweep envelope draws ok.

and now some requests (its not the holydays but it's worth trying  :)  ) :

1. could you introduce separate parameters for load size and position (a simple rectangle would be enough); now we have vehicle size, trailer size but sometimes the transport size is different than the trailer size.
2. could you insert an option to modify the number of trailer axles, I mean the path follows the middle of the axle group but it would be nice to have wheel sweep for more than two axles. I think this can be done by using the option described at point 1. by considering  the load as the packet of axles.
3. this is a difficult one!! - can you insert an option like "independent path for trailer axles"; the option for independent rear wheel steering is good for approximation but most times rear wheels go on a different path. I guess this would need a lot of thinking and coding but it would be awesome!
4. can you insert an option to edit the name of the vehicles. I copy a vehicle and modify just the parameters I need instead of creating a new one, but it's stuck with the name "copy of ....".

hope to here soon from you,

best regards,
Raul

Hi!

If you edit the vehicle you need to save it before you select another vehicle. Copy a vehicle, edit width and name and other parameters then press “Save”.

I’m sorry but I’ve no plans to extend the vehicle simulations in CadTools. If you need more functionality you need to get the a “real” simulation software (AutoTurn or PathPlanner). If there will be any modifications other than bug corrections to the vehicle simulation this will be as a completely new standalone software in DotNet. The big problem is that my time is limited right now.

hello Lars,

still no response for the two problems regarding the path error and the width of the second vehicle... I hope you fix them when you have the time.

best regards
Raul

Hi!

I'm sorry for the late answer. I've got your drawing and tried with a vehicle with almost same dimensions and it works fine for me. Are you using correct units?

You also have a left wheel sweep line that crosses the path????

Could you send me your vehicle library (vdt-file) and point me to the vehicle that causes the problem. As an alternative you can create a screen dump of that vehicle (The vehicle turning form).

When I try the "Independent rear steering" I get same odd behaviour. I'll look into that!

yes. this only happens when using independent rear wheel steering. the odd thing is that the sweep envelope is ok and it doesn't get affected by the bad sweeps.

I've found the bug. A update will be available tomorrow.
