Help, Install problems on Win 7 - 64bit
« on: December 15, 2012, 11:51:09 PM »
Just got a new computer upgrade w/ Windows 7 64bit.  I ported over my AutoCAD 2000i alright; I have changed the CadTools installer to run with Admin priviledges.  It will start to install with the CadTools Install Wizard, but as soon as I select the next button it gives me a Fatal Error and says "Installation ended prematurely because of an error".

Try to download a new setup file.

Sorry but that did not help.  Looks like the install package / wrapper fails w/ my install of Win 7 64bit.  Settings are all the standard factory Dell.  I've attached the screens showing that the installer initally loads but then fails when you advance to the next step.

Try to run the installation as administrator.
Or you need to Google on that ("installation ended prematurely because of an error"), thats a Windows problem.

Ugh.  Looks like I have to resort to Regedit.  Now I know why I ordered my last machine w/ Win 7 32-bit XP mode.

Lars,

I still can not get the installer program to install under 64bit.  I had a similar problem with installing Express Tools.  It install program was not compatible with 64bit Windows.  I ended up manually copying the files over from my old 32bit machine.

Is there a listing of files I should manually port over.  I really miss the utility of Cad Tools.

Thanks,
Ed

Install success, thanks Lars.

I had to use Method #1: "msiexec /i cadtools.msi /qr+" at the command prompt to finally get it to go.

Now I only have to resolve the wrong version error, Vista administrator error.  How I hate 64-bit.

Appears to be resolved, it is working.  I dug deeper into file properties on both CAD Tools and AutoCAD and made sure that full Administrator privileges were clicked for all users under the Advanced Settings.  I'll confess that I didn't keep trying after each setting tweak, so when it took off and started working it was far into a few tweaks.

Thanks again,
Ed
