Hello Lars,
I want to thank first that your CadTools it's free and to ancourage you to make more and more .....
I want to ask you if it's posible to make in this forum a RSS function or in your internet site where CadTools is to announce your upgrade.
Thanks anyway for what you have made until now.
Greetings from Romania

Hi!
I'm glad you like cadtools
That RSS idea sounds great. I don't know how to fix that but I will look into it.
-
The program looks great . I didn't try it yet but i think its allright .
i didn't saw any tools for subdivision polyline areas in smaller piecies !
-
There is a command for that, look for "Densify polyline"
-
Nice .
Is there any command for transoformations , like affinic , polyonimic etc ?
I couldn't find time to check . Excuse me .
If there isn't . It would be a significant addition .
-
There's no command for transformations in CadTools. I don't think there will be any, I have no or little knowledge about it.

Hello Lars,
I want to ask you if it's posible to make somethink to generate viewports in layouts, after some predefinite rectangles in Model space. To prepare the job for plotting.
I know manny other softwares are doing this function too, but with your CadTools you can make a lot and it's something that is missing :)) (i hope you understand my ideea).
Anyway ... Merry Christmas to all!

Hi! I haven't done anything with Viewports before but it sounds like a great idea. Your request could result in some interesting fetures, I do have some ideas of my own in this issue. I'm developing another software for one of my customers right now so there hasn't been much time over for any CadTools coding. I'll look into this as soon I'm back on track with CadTools.
Could you name any software that have these features implemented?
Regards
Lars

hello everybody!
this is my first post so I must give lars a big "thumbs up!" for this great piece of software !
I've been using it for sometime now but only for fun because I'm using mxroad at work and never had a chance to use cadtools for a real project :-[ .
I wanted to start posting a long time ago but never had the chance ( by that I mean that I never had the chance to clearly think about improving cadtools - although I have some ideas for some extensions). So Apeiron's last post about plotting started a little fire in my brain ;D. And after 3 days of work I finished my second ACAD application (the first was last week and ...uuuhm... I've been coding for like...aaa...last week ;D so if things go wrong you know why ..) and there it is ! I hope you will find it easy to understand and use and please give me some feedback because I want to know if it's worth developing further (now it only works with the command line but I want to make a dialog menu and enhance it with other functions ;) ).
What it does?
Well, this application gives a comfortable way of creating layouts directly from model space while having a clear idea what's the viewport going to contain .how everything is going to be scaled in the drawing and also it makes it easier to create rotated viewports (you get to choose the scale, paper size and rotation from modelspace just as Apeiron wanted to, so things should be very clear).
I think I spoke to much for now :) so I will be back with a short "read me" explaining more about it.
Btw the application is how else but free ! ;D
Good evening to everyone and hope to hear from you as soon as possible.
P.S. Lars, I hope I'm not upsetting you by posting an application on this forum :-\...

Hello cr_raul,
it's not exactly what I wanted but I have to say that it's a good ideea :) .... congratulation
What I want is to make automatic viewports in layouts after some rectangles I made in the model space (here it's good your function).
-
hi apeiron.
so you want to draw some rectangles (various sizes) in the model space and then with just one command turn them into viewports in a certain layout?
I think I can make something like that but there are a few problems:
1. the zoom factor that controls the scale of the drawing: you need to set the scale before you draw the rectangle otherwise you may have some surprises when the viewport is done.
2. the shape of the viewport : if you want just simple rectangles and your work is in "world" ucs than there it will be very easy but if you need some irregular polygons or circle shaped viewports I'm going to need some time to figure it out.
Maybe the simplest way would be for me to modify the initial application so that it will make just the viewports in a layout so you can make and add more viewports in a single layout instead of just creating a layout with a single viewport.
I think it will be better if you would make some example of how you want things to work so I can get a better understanding.
I'm a working as a road designer so I made the application to suit my needs and I need to make a lot of rotated plans along the road and make sure that I don't leave out of the viewport some important things and that the plans are somehow overlapped for the same reason.
I think I went out of topic so maybe we should start a new thread about plotting options in cadtools - some kind of a "wish list" to Lars ;D for when he decides to add this functionality to cadtools.

Hi!
cr_raul, First of all it's ok with me posting other things than CadTools as long it benefit Autocad users (and others). It's great to see posts in the forum.
I've tested your app and it works fine and I'm looking forward to se the final result. I've not decided yet if I'm going to have any support for creating layouts in CadTools. Right now I'm in the middle of another project and doesn't have the time.

Hello,
like you I work from Model Space and I make rectangles too see better how to arrange the final look of the plotted paper drawing and then I make after some predefined rectangles some viewports.
So your app it's usefull and it's helping me a lot.
If you can make something to create a viewport after the shape (always rectangles) it's great.Offcourse the scale is predefined in the Model space with this rectangles.
Thanks

Hi Lars!
Thank you for the utility, it helps me a lot, although I'm not a civil engineer :). I'm a geologist, and I use especially the "draw form coordinates" tool for 3D representation of various objects, samples and events. I would like to propose an upgrade and extension to this tool. This could include regular line, and 3D shapes, like sphere and cylinder. It would be also helpful if more options could be added for the current objects (point, polyline), like different color for each polyline.
-
Hi!
Yes there are many ways to improve CadTools. In the end it's always time and effort that rules. Draw from coordinates could be improved (extended) a lot, possibly it could be a stand alone product.
I've stacked your suggestion on top of the document pile, next time I dig into that part of CadTools I might add something.

Hi
a good idea is to make knees to profile of lines because sometimes we want to print profile in paper height 0.30 m.
It must be good to have the selection of paper height and the scale of the drawing to choose.
-
I'm trying to figure out what you mean. Could you please post a new subject and be more detailed.
What command? Knee?
-
Hi

It must be good to have the selection of paper height and the scale of the drawing to choose.
I think he's trying to say that the profile function should have a drawing scale option and the "knees" as he's referring to them are breaks inserted in the profile line with different base level so that the profile would fit into a less wider paper sheet.
-
by the way , it would be nice to have an option to chose the information to show in the profile's box and the order it is put in.
-
As I mention before, it's hard to get time to add features to CadTools. Plotting profiles to AutoCAD isn't that hard but belive me there's a lot of code behind.
Suggestions for a "knee" and more options for labeling is noticed in my note book. :-\

you can do a command that transforms arcs and circles in polylines formed by broken lines?
and one that converts ellipses in polylines
to export drawings into FEM programs or 3d programs.
please.......

This can be done with cadtools, look in the "Convert" commands.
Ellipses is not supported but there are some lisprutines on Internet to download.
You could try this, I have not tested it.
