How to do a simple pipe 'render'?
« on: May 21, 2011, 05:58:39 AM »
Hello,

I'm studying to be an Engineer, working for a small company in drafting. I've been given a site layout, and my boss mentioned that I could use cadtools to create the effect in the .png below:

Can somebody please explain how I would achieve this? I have alot more of them to do in a model.

Thanks in advance

To make a 3D pipe from a polyline  with CadTools you use the “Create 3D solids from 3D polylines” command. This command use AutoCAD’s “Extrude object along path”.

If your polyline is a simple 2D polyline you first need to convert it to a 3Dpolyline, to do that you use the CadTools convert command. You can also use CadTools “Chord Height” setting to change the accuracy of the converted arc part of the polyline.

Hope this will help!

Should this be working for me on a 2D sketch..? Or do I have to start with a 3D block?

You could start with a 2Dpolyline and then convert it to a 3Dpolyline with cadtools "Convert" command. Then you use  the “Create 3D solids from 3D polylines” on the 3Dpolyline.
